Volume-to-weight depends on how the ingredient is packed. These densities follow common baking references — for precision baking, weigh rather than scoop.

How it works

A cup is a volume, but flour and sugar weigh very different amounts per cup. Pick the ingredient and the converter uses the right density instead of pretending everything behaves like water.

Grams = Volume in US cups × Grams per cup for that ingredient

Example: 2 cups of plain flour is about 250 g, while 2 cups of granulated sugar is 400 g.

Questions people ask

Why does the same cup give different grams?

Because density differs. A cup of flour is around 125 g, a cup of honey is 340 g — nearly three times heavier for the same space.

Should I scoop or spoon the flour?

Spoon it into the cup and level it off. Scooping compacts the flour and can add 20% more than the recipe intends, which is why weighing is more reliable.

Are tablespoons the same everywhere?

Nearly. A US tablespoon is 14.8 ml, a metric one is 15 ml and an Australian one is 20 ml. This converter uses US measures.
